Temple
B’nai Israel
is a growing, dynamic, and independent congregation. Founded in 1904 as the Y.M.H.A.
Temple, our first permanent home
was built in 1927 on Lincoln Avenue
in downtown Aurora. Our present
structure was built in 1961.
Our
building has many amenities, including a beautiful, large contemporary
sanctuary, a smaller chapel, a social hall, a Kosher kitchen, eight
classrooms, including one classroom specially designed for preschool and
kindergarten with an attached and enclosed playground, a library, the
synagogue office, and the Rabbi's study.
Our
synagogue is located in one of the fastest growing areas of west suburban Chicago.
Our congregation includes members of all ages, including singles, young
families, "empty nesters," and senior citizens and has services
designed to meet the specific needs of individuals with Traditional, Conservative,
and Reform orientations as well as sensitivity to the desires of interfaith
families.
Services
are held Friday evenings and Saturday mornings, all holidays, and upon
request for a Yahrzeit. Our Shabbat services
are both beautiful and family oriented. Twice a month, one Shabbat
evening service and one Shabbat morning service, we offer student-led
services, conducted by the children in our Hebrew
School. Because of the
uniqueness of our community, we offer both traditional services as well as
conservative egalitarian services on Shabbat mornings. High Holiday
services are modern and meaningful. Services include prayers in Hebrew
and English. Junior congregation services are held in the small chapel
and a baby-sitting service is available during High Holidays.
In
2004 Temple B’nai Israel
marked our Centennial with a yearlong celebration. See the Centennial
page for more information about our history and Centennial celebration.
